1. Hot Chocolate or apple cider?
Hot chocolate if I have to choose, but I prefer coffee!

2. Turkey or Ham?
Ham. Definitely ham.

 3. Do you get a fake or real-you-cut-it-yourself Christmas tree?
Up until this year, real trees. This is our first artificial tree and I must say, I LOVE it!

 4. Decorations on the outside of your house?
Yes! Usually white icicle lights around the eaves and a cross that ‘glows’.  There are also electric candles in each window on the front of the house. It looks so calm and peaceful. This year, though, we had icicle issues. Let’s not even go there right now.

 5. Snowball fights or sleddin’?
Ummm. No. We have ice here. It rarely snows and when it does, it’s not enough. Besides, I greatly dislike the cold.

 6. Do you enjoy going downtown shopping?
Not really.

 7. Favorite Christmas song?

O Holy Night and Welcome To Our World.

8. How do you feel about Christmas movies?

I love them! My favorite right now is The Star of Bethlehem. You can & should buy it here.

 9. When is it too early to start listening to Christmas music?
Too early….before Thanksgiving.

 10. Stockings before or after presents?
We don’t really have a hard and fast rule. Stocking are my favorite and I prefer to save mine for last!

 11. Carolers, do you or do you not watch and listen to them?
Oh yes, of course!

 12. Go to someone else’s house or they come to you?

Well, usually go – this will be our first year to be at home all day!

 13. Do you read the Christmas Story? If so when?
Oh yes. Several times throughout the season.

 14. What do you do after presents and dinner?
This year we will play Christmas music, probably read Luke and just enjoy the kids!

15. What is your favorite holiday smell?

Pumpkin or cinnamon.

 16. Ice skating or walking around the mall?
Wow. Neither!

 17. Do you open a present or presents on Christmas Eve, or wait until Christmas day?
My kids are allowed to open one gift on Christmas Eve. The rest we save until Christmas morning.

 18. Favorite Christmas memory?
Baking cookies with my kids on Christmas Eve, the years my kids first ‘got it’,  and every year I’ve spent with my husband!

 19. Favorite Part about winter?
Not much. Winter is not my fav.

 20. Ever been kissed under mistletoe?
Yah!

 21. Tagging…
No one, but feel free to ‘steal’ it if you wish.

*No idea why the funky spacing so I gave up!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

Posted by mycrazylittlelife on 12/18/2008

After 2 weeks (not a solid 2 weeks, it was just spread out!) of a nasty stomach virus, we are back in full swing! We have been running like crazy and enjoying every minute of it. The first weekend of December was our town’s Christmas party. Yes, most of the town. It included most of the shops on the square. There was shopping, food, hot cocoa, LOTS of performances (which our daughter was a part of) and Santa, of course! It’s such a fun time! I’m so glad we were able to attend, even if it were only for a little while. (We were still recovering from the Barforama.)

Last weekend (Saturday and Sunday) was our major production at church. It was beautiful! I would post pics, but I didn’t quite have enough time to adjust my camera settings before the lighting would change! (Note to self: review camera manual/settings!) Of course, there was a ‘reception’ afterwards for the choir. It was, of course, a lot of work – but it was GREAT! I’m so glad we were able to attend.

On Saturday morning we attended our town’s Christmas parade. Since we live in relatively small town, we knew quite a few people in the parade, which is always fun for kids. I didn’t even think to take my camera to this one. After the parade, the man and I went shopping. It was so nice to enjoy some time out with him.

This week we have been baking for neighbors and friends, helping prepare for upcoming events at church and partying! We are so blessed to have such awesome friends and church family. I am so thankful to have them in my life!

Saturday we will celebrate with my husband’s family. It will be a fun time with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins! Usually we celebrate on Christmas Day, so this will be our first year to be home ALL day on Christmas. While we all love visiting family near Christmas, we are looking forward to not leaving the house!

Next week is looking busy as well.  Sunday is another church activity for the kids. It’s such a sweet time with them. I think it’s my most favorite of all! I spent some time today preparing little gifts for this event. Every year they are presented with something to take home as a reminder of this special time. Dude, I love my church!  Let’s see…we will also begin preparing for my dad to visit, probably do a bit more baking, and preparing for our Christmas meal. I’m hoping to also work in one more craft! We’ll see. I may run out of time!

Through all the hustle and bustle of the season, we’ve taken lots of ‘time outs’ to reflect on the Reason of it all. After all, had God not sent His Son, there would be no Christmas. There would be no salvation, no hope. What a world that would be! Take time this season to focus on Jesus!

This week is busy (similar to every other week) so this is a simple & easy menu plan. I’m actually short a few meals, but I know I have some backups in the freezer and could easily put a few together from the pantry. What a blessing!

holidaympm-1

~breakfasts~ birds in a nest, peanut butter & banana on toast, cereal, oatmeal, fruit or oj, milk & coffee. See? Quick & easy so we can move on with our days!

~lunches~ sandwiches, Ramen, salads, frozen pizza, fruits

~dinners~
chicken & dumplings, green beans, apples

spaghetti with meat sauce, salad, garlic bread if we have some in the freezer

15 bean soup with sausage, cornbread

chicken and rice in the crock-pot, salad or steamed veggies

turkey chili with cheese, onions & sour cream, cornbread

I also have an apple crisp in the freezer along with popsicles from the Puke Fest last week, so I am not planning any sweets. Like we need more sugar anyway!

Blog? What blog?

Posted by mycrazylittlelife on 12/07/2008

It’s that time of year! You know when all you can do is *try* to keep up! This blog has fallen to the bottom of my very long list. Maybe I can get back on track next week.

I certainly hope you and yours had a fabulous Thanksgiving! We sure did! We travelled a bit to visit my father. It was a somewhat relaxed weekend. We were able to cook and freeze a great deal of food for him. Per his request I made lasagna and beef/vegetable soup. Then about 4 dozen brownies, I lost count. I also made beef & barley soup and something else. Taco soup, maybe. That’s terrible…I’ve already forgotten!

My dad fried two turkeys and my husband cooked a ham. Of course, for the Thanksgiving meal we had all the trimmings too. His freezer is now well stocked with healthy, homemade foods. It was so great to be able to serve him that way. Since we were so busy cooking, we didn’t clean much. Usually my daughter and I try to at least get to the basics but it just didn’t happen on this visit. Hopefully, his housekeeper will be back to work soon!

On Friday evening we drove a little way out of town to enjoy a drive-thru light display. It was amazing! We were concerned because it was a little pricey (I’m cheap frugal, remember!). However, we were pleasantly surprised. It was worth every penny and we intend to go again next year. Here are some pictures of what we saw. They don’t do it justice in the least.

This was a huge ‘tree’ that changed colors at the entrance.

Horse drawn wagon.

This was toward the end. Before it was a beautiful life size manger scene.

After it was a tomb with angels surrounding it and Jesus ascending into Heaven. I loved that they ended with this! Absolutely gorgeous!
